Essex boy Simon, born three years ago to his sibling Jason in 1965, is the elder of the two acting Merrells brothers.Although there were no roots in the family, both babies were ready to go to the boards early, attended drama classes Saturday morning, then Sylvia Young School and, in the case of Simon, drama college.On return, working as a mini-cab driver to earn the money to go back to Mexico to join a girlfriend who was in the circus there. He eventually went back to acting however, and turned professional in 1994.
