sAshby studied Psychology and Business Administration at Fort Lewis in Durango, California and moved to New York where he took theater lessons in the neighbourhood Playhouse after completing his studies at Bolles High School in Jacksonville, Florida.He took part in soap opera Loving early in his career, and MacGyver's character also played a small role with Paul Newman in Mr. & Mrs. Bridge in 1990, as well as in an independent film The Queen of Hell with Karen Black in 1990. He then played the film thriller The Perfect Bride against Kelly Preston in 1991.
