Fields is mainly remembered for her appearances on the NBC sitcom The Truth of Life (1979–1988) as Dorothy "Tootie" Ramsey and as Regine Hunter on the Fox sitcom Living Single (1993–1998). Fields is actress / director Chip Fields 'daughter, and actress Alexis Fields' older sister.
