John Vernon was a prolific Canadian role actor educated on stage who made a career in American films and television since the 1960s out of convincingly portraying crafty criminals, morally-bankrupt politicians and heartless authority figures. Several great directors have directed Vernon, among them Alfred Hitchcock (Topaz (1969)); George Cukor (Justine (1969)); Don Siegel (Dirty Harry (1971)).
