How tall was Charles Bickford?
Charles Ambrose Bickford was born in the first minute of 1891. He gave up the business in his late teens and wandered around the world without a goal. He spent the next twelve years in road companies touring the world, then hit Broadway in "Outside Looking In." Cecil B. DeMille saw Bickford on stage, and in Dynamite (1929) offered him the lead.One of his co-stars won the Oscar for Best Actress (Jennifer Jones for The Song of Bernadette (1943), Loretta Young for The Farmer's Daughter (1947), and Jane Wyman for Johnny Belinda (1948) each time he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.
